Torch Man

Personality:   "Perhaps you will be a challenge. Fall to the fist of flame!" ―Torch Man, Mega Man 11 Torch Man (トーチマン Tōchiman) is a Wily Number who appears in Mega Man 11. He originally was manufactured by Tsubakuro Precision Machining (ツバクロ製作所) as an outdoor advisor that taught campers about fire safety and practiced martial arts to keep the flames coming out from his body under control, but was modified by Dr. Wily to fight against Mega Man and use his pyrokinetic abilities for destructive purposes. He is a practitioner of Torch-jutsu (トーチ火炎拳 Tōchikaenken, lit. "Torch Flame Fist"), a martial art he developed, being particularly good with jumping kicks. His Special Weapon, Blazing Torch, allows Mega Man to fire a ball of red-hot fire diagonally into the air. He speaks with a Japanese accent. Torch Man is a tall robot outfitted with red armor covering most of his gray body suit. His shoulder pads resemble torches and are constantly emitting flames, and his feet have vents. Torch Man also has five light blue orbs attached to his armor: four large orbs on the chest plate and one small orb on the helmet. His helmet is cylindrical, with thin vents covering both sides. Despite being a fire-themed robot, Torch Man is surprisingly cool-headed and disciplined, although he loses his temper when his opponent gains the upper hand in battle, and is quick to activate the Power Gear to give himself an extra edge. He has difficulty in keeping his flames under control, and he can lose control of his powers whenever he feels strong emotions. He practices Torch-jutsu to do so, but he can neglect danger during his training: one time, he tried to meditate by standing under a raging waterfall, but he ended up damaging himself so badly that it took three months to fully repair him. Torch Man loves to roast turkey, which gets him very excited, resulting in many scorched birds. Torch Man's attacks depend on his proximity to Mega Man. When standing next to Mega Man, he will jump away to increase the distance. At close range he will either use a roundhouse kick or a dive kick. At medium distance he uses a forward roundhouse kick or steps back to increase the distance. At long range he releases several fireballs from his fists or a single fireball and a step forward. When he loses half of his health, Torch Man activates his Power Gear, sets his body ablaze, and jumps around the opposite side of his position while sending large rings of fire rolling on the ground, then jumps into the air and comes crashing down in the middle of the room, creating a massive flame pillar in his wake. He is invulnerable to attack in this state with the exception of a Tundra Storm strike. He returns to his normal pattern after this. He is weak to Tundra Storm, which can douse his flames. If used against him with Power Gear, any flame blasts that he has fired will be destroyed, along with dealing him severe damage. His flame blasts can also be destroyed with a normal Tundra Storm attack as well. In the Superhero difficulty, Torch Man's attacks are faster and do more damage, and he pauses for a much shorter time between each attack. He is also able to tap into his Power Gear much earlier in the fight, being able to do so as soon as one third of his health is depleted, as opposed to half in other difficulty modes. When unable to avoid his Power Gear move, it is safer to wait just under Torch Man when he activates Power Gear and goes up, than to wait a little closer to him. When he lands on Mega Man, he deals contact damage, but when Mega Man is not directly under and is not far enough, the fire wall of Torch Man's fall will deal more damage. Torch Man is one of the eight Stage Select Screen bosses. Mega Man obtains Blazing Torch after defeating him. Torch Man was designed as a camping advisor, teaching people about campfire safety. In his spare time, he ventures out into the wild to work on his very own martial art, "Torch-jutsu." He started Torch-jutsu in order to train himself to keep his flames under control, since the slightest lapse in judgment can cause a dangerous flare-up. With his training incomplete, he still tends to flare up in moments of strong emotion. He gets particularly excited when it's time for the turkey roast, resulting in many a scorched bird. He once tried training by standing under a raging waterfall. The subsequent repairs took three months. Manufacturer: Tsubakuro Precision Machining Dr. Wily sent Torch Man and Blast Man to retrieve the Double Gear system prototype from Mega Man, and Blast Man causes chaos in Symphony City to call Mega Man's attention, who soon arrives with Rush Jet. Torch Man wants a fair one-on-one fight against Mega Man to test his strength, but Blast Man attacked Mega Man as soon as he arrived and refuses Torch Man's request. Upset, Torch Man reminds Blast Man that he is the one in charge of the team and he should do things his way, but Blast Man ignores him. After Mega Man was hit by a blast that sent him out of their view, Torch Man argues with Blast Man for not fighting like a true warrior, disliking how he turned Mets into bombs, but Blast Man only mocks Torch Man and detonates a Met near him, catching him off-guard. After Blast Man is apparently defeated by Mega Man, Mega Man points his buster to a Met and Torch Man asks him to not harm it, as it was not a warrior like them and was damaged. Torch Man himself was critically damaged and stuck in precarious rubble that could fall over him, and Mega Man and Rush try to remove the rubble before it collapses. Meanwhile, Torch Man apologizes for Blast Man's actions and his inaction regarding it, and that it was foolish of him to think that he should extinguish Mega Man's light to make his own shine brighter. Torch Man was unconsciousness by the time Mega Man and Rush finished removing the rubble, and Mega Man repaired the Met that Torch Man asked to not harm. Trivia Torch Man was also the name of a boss in Mega Man 3: The Robots are Revolting, released 26 years before Mega Man 11. Although Torch Man has no NetNavi counterpart in the video games, in the English dub of the MegaMan NT Warrior anime series, FireMan.EXE was renamed TorchMan.EXE. Torch Man's fighting style is similar to Magma Dragoon's fighting style from Mega Man X4. Torch Man shares his voice actor with Rush in Mega Man 11. Torch Man is the second of the Stage Select Screen bosses whose original purpose was to be an educational robot guide (campfire safety, in this case), the first being Dynamo Man (power plant guide). Torch Man is similar to Burner Man as both use fire and have their respective stages take place within a forest. Also, both of their stages have a form of insta-kill hazards (a moving fire wall for Torch Man and a floor of flames for Burner Man) and share a weakness to ice weapons (Tundra Storm and Ice Wall, respectively).
