Creator: Unknown

Character Definition
  • Personality:   lit. "Lunatic Emperor") Weapon: Astronomical Clock, Saber, Flintlock Pistol Astral Dress: Unknown Her clock, pistol, and saber possess special abilities controlling space that can cause different effects on the subject depending on the weapon used. Some abilities of Lucifugus, such as Sartan and Betulah, are activated by using her saber. Meanwhile, there are also other abilities are triggered by shooting her bullets. Cancer Sword Sartan (巨蟹の剣サルタン, Sarutan?): Warps space-time in order to protect the user or assault the enemy. Leo Bullet Arie (獅子の弾アリエ, Arie?): A tracking bullet, guided by the White Queen's will, that devours space. The devoured space takes the form of a white trail that the bullet leaves behind. Anything that comes into contact with the trail or bullet will be shredded or annihilated into pieces. The White Queen dislikes using this bullet due to the noisy sound that the bullet makes while devouring space. In order to use this bullet, the White Queen must focus on her target so it can track them, so the White Queen is immobile while using this bullet. Virgo Sword Betulah (乙女の剣ベトゥラー, Beturā?): Creates a crack in space and allows a person to travel between places. It is primarily used for instantaneous travel between different regions in the Neighboring World. Libra Bullet Moznaim (天秤の弾モズニーム, Mozunīmu?): Rules over space and can reverse cause and effect within that space. Scorpio Bullet Akrab (蠍の弾アクラヴ, Akuravu?): The true power of the Scorpio Bullet is the cause for the White Queen's multiple personalities. These personalities also function as storage batteries, which can then be consumed for a quick boost of power. As a surplus of the power, the user can also turn Empties into chess pieces under her control. The White Queen uses this bullet to turn Empty girls into her three personal executives; Rook, Bishop and Knight. All the executives inherit the memories of their previous incarnation. Unlike Rook and Knight who are made from Empty, Bishop has a parasitic nature and can be created from normal Quasi-Spirits. Bishop also has the ability to infect other Quasi Spirit with her memories and change her victim into another Bishop, which means unlike the other two chess pieces, there can be more than one Bishop. Because of this nature, her personality varies depending on the influence of her vessel. Aquarius Bullet D'li (水瓶の弾ドゥリ, Duri?): Heals the target completely. Gemini Bullet Teomim (双子の弾テォミーム, Teomīmu?): Originally, this power had the ability to create a degraded copy of the White Queen. However, the Queen disliked how the copies would tarnish her image, and thus she modified the powers of this bullet. By diluting the copies even further, they became Empties unrecognizable from herself. The end result was an artificial army created with the sole input of obeying the Queen's orders. Taurus Sword Shawl (牡牛の剣ショール, Shōru?): An ability that accelerates the speed of the user. Sawa uses this in conjunction with her saber to perform a forward thrust with the tip of her blade. Sagittarius Sword Keshet (射手の剣ケシェット, Keshetto?): The attack is described as both a sword as if a bullet, and a bullet as if a sword. Regarded as the White Queen's trump card, it has speed exceeding Mach 10 and is imbedded with enough destructive power to gouge out the space of the surrounding area. However, the White Queen only used this power during her final battle against Kurumi, as it can only be used once before never being usable again. Advertisement Het Akrab The White Queen deeply coveted the original Kurumi's ability to use the numerical advantage of her clone army in order to overwhelm her enemies through sheer attrition. As such, she began plotting to use the fantasy RPG mechanic of the Fifth Region Gevurah to modify the powers of her Scorpio Bullet Akrab. The end result was the Eighth Scorpio Bullet Het Akrab (八と蠍の弾ヘット・アクラヴ, Hetto Akuravu?). Using this adjusted bullet, the White Queen is able to transform her Empties into near-perfect replicas of herself. Additionally, she also gave the ability to use this bullet to the first five clones she created. These five then spread out through their ranks to create a clone army of nearly 400 White Queens from their Empties. While the clones further created from the initial five have not been shown using Lucifugus's special abilities, their physical abilities have been bolstered to the point where they can put up a good fight against the Dominions. However, the sound released when firing this bullet is very distinct. When confronted by Rinemu's superhuman level of hearing, the Dominion of Yesod was able to use her ears to pinpoint the location of the special five clones entrusted with the Het Akrab bullet. Additionally, Kurumi notes that creating so many clones must be very tasking for the original, hypothesizing that the sheer amount of time and Reiryoku spent is the reason behind the original White Queen underperforming in their ensuing fight. During her final battle against Kurumi, the White Queen tore off her own arm and shot Het Akrab to transform it into a clone. Sawa would give the clone the name General, deeming her a replacement for the General persona that died during her battle against Kurumi in Chokmah. Due to using her arm as the foundation rather than an Empty, the resulting clone is of much higher quality and can even use Lucifugus' special powers. However, upon Hibiki's close inspection, General's ability to use Lucifugus is still inferior to the original. For instance, while she is able to fire the Leo Bullet Arie, she lacks the ability to use the bullet's tracking function that the original could employ. Brainwashing Ability As shown in case of Yuri Sagakure, the White Queen can share her memory and emotion of love to the "Man from the Other World" with others. To the Empty, this love fills their hollow hearts and controls them with a fanatical degree of worship for the White Queen. In the case of Kareha Banouin, the effect feels like a very powerful temptation of joy to give her everything for the Queen, growing stronger as it takes over her entire self. This attempt does not always give the expected result. Kareha Banouin managed to fight against the emotion by holding onto her love for Retsumi, although she chose to disappear in fear of losing that love to the new love for her enemy. Yuri Sagakure ends up actually loving the boy from the other world more than the White Queen herself and schemed for her own purpose. Quotes (To Kurumi Tokisaki) “Fight? You said fight? Amusing, amusing, how utterly amusing. No… fufu… even when reversed, I am still me? Tokisaki Kurumi, have you not understood yet? The disparity of when your strength falls short to mine?” [5] (To Kurumi Tokisaki and Cistus) “──Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong! I am not a clone! I am the original, the original! How can a clone inverse! This Demon King <Lucifugus> is proof! I am not using a degraded replica of <Zafkiel> like you guys……!” [6] (To herself) "Now then, everyone. Let’s begin playing chess. Taking command of Rook, Bishop and Knight. Dreaming of the day of that coming coronation. Ah, ah, ah, I really can’t wait.” [7] (To Yuri Sagakure) “Because I fancy your talents. Your cruelty is simply of too great value to wastefully disappear. Isn’t that right? Because of your selfishness, you even killed your little sister in order to prevent her from leaving you. That greed is truly praiseworthy.” [8] (To Bishop) “Let’s proceed to the Fifth Region Gevurah. The decisive battle will be on that barren land. Upon arrival, my personality will switch to the real one.” [9] (To Ariadne Foxrot) “Please rest assured, Ariadne Foxrot. I recognize your power. I’m treating it with contempt after recognizing it.” [10] (To Hibiki Higoromo) “You have options. One is life, the other is death. Please give me an answer that would make me want to be merciful. Now, which one is better?” [11] Trivia The White Queen's Demon King, Lucifugus, is named after the archdemon Lucifuge Rofocale, and literally translates to "one who flees from light". The special abilities of Lucifugus are named after the 12 western zodiac signs in Hebrew. Kōshi Tachibana was in charge of her design and the names for all of her bullets.[12] White Queen is also the name of a fictional character who appears in Lewis Carroll's 1871 fantasy novel Through the Looking-Glass. The original personality of Yamai is now gone, as well as what type of character she used to have is unknown to the split Yamais. The Yamai Sisters have been well known to the people who knew about the existence of Spirits because they often cause a major storm every time they come to Earth. It was unstated when the Yamai Sisters started fighting, but they have been fighting with each other for quite some time for the sole purpose of deciding the winner as the real Yamai. Their matches range from non-violent to violent for almost 99 battles, with them arriving at 25 wins for each sister and 49 draws. They then decided that the 100th battle would be their final confrontation. Whether out of luck or by chance, the Yamai Sisters encounter Shido while he and his classmates were having a field trip to the southern island; the Yamai Sisters decided that their 100th battle should be whoever can seduce Shido first will be the winner and will be considered as the real Yamai. Thanks to Reine, it was around this time the Yamai Sisters transferred into Shido’s high school and the beginning of both Yamai sisters and Shido's battle to seduce each other. In reality, both of the Yamai Sisters secretly wanted the other to live, but when they discovered that both of them had the same idea, they stubbornly refuse to live and for the other to die; so in the end, they fought. Thankfully, Shido forcefully interrupted their fight with Tohka's sword, Sandalphon, and gave them a new option for both of them to live and that is for him to seal their power. They pondered on that idea until they finally accepted their wish to live along with each other. Both of them got their power sealed at the same time when they gave Shido a thank-you kiss. Due to their stable mental state after being sealed, they didn't need to transfer into Shido's classroom, but the one next door to his. Appearance Being identical twins, Kaguya and Yuzuru look almost the same. They both have orange hair, with a long strand on each side of their head ending in a tornado-like twirl. They also have mercury blue eyes and are close to the same height. However, watching carefully, both still have their individual characteristics. Kaguya Yamai She has "a characteristically delicate body that looked like it would break if hugged too tightly" as described by Shido. Her hair is braided up, and she has a lean figure. She has a determined expression for most of the time. Kaguya's height is stated to be 157 cm, and her three sizes are B79/W56/H81. Kaguya's Astral Dress is mainly the color purple and has chains on her right hand and foot. The lower half of her body has a half skirt around her waist which drops to the knees and opens around her thighs. As for casual attire, she began wearing the Raizen High School uniform during her first date with Shido and later adopted the full outfit upon enrolling, including the vest. Aside from this, Kaguya is a fan of gothic lolita outfits. While her fashion sense has been noted to have become more mature by the time she entered university, she still prefers black clothes. Yuzuru Yamai She has "the body of a model" as described by Shido. Her hair is braided in three portions, and she has a curvy figure. She has a vague expression and keeps her eyes half closed for most of the time; simply put, Yuzuru has a poker face. Her height is stated to be 158 cm, and her three sizes are B90/W61/H86. While her sister's Astral Dress is mainly purple in color, Yuzuru's dress is bluish-purple with a small cape and has chains on her left hand and foot. As for casual attire, she began wearing the Raizen High School uniform during her first date with Shido and later adopted the full outfit upon enrolling, including the vest. Aside from this, in contrast to Kaguya, Yuzuru seems to prefer more mature clothes. Yamai Kazamachi As their original, the human Yamai looked identical to Kaguya and Yuzuru, to the point that the twins initially mistook her for each other upon seeing a picture of her. She was also noted to have been beautiful enough for a modeling agency to attempt to scout her. The appearance of the fused form of the Yamai sisters differs from the human Yamai in several ways. Particularly, she herself noted that she is both taller and bustier compared to her human self. Shido describes her facial features as being an "in-between" of Kaguya and Yuzuru's looks. Also, unlike the twins, Yamai does not braid her hair in any way. Her height is 180 cm, and her three sizes are B102/W66/H98.[11] Yamai's Astral Dress combines the colors of both sisters, and has a complete pair of wings. Her outfit also includes several extra pieces of armor as well as a long muffler around her neck. As for casual attire, in Yamai Triad, she wore the Raizen High School uniform. However, unlike the twins, she opted to omit the vest. Also, the uniform was comically undersized on her, leaving her bust and tights partially exposed. Personality Despite being twins, their personalities are almost complete opposites to each other. However, they still have some things in common, with both having displayed a playful attitude as well as a mutual love for competition and each other. Kaguya Yamai Outgoing and outspoken, one can say that she is childish or immature. Kaguya appears to suffer from Chūnibyō, often using exaggerated gestures and German words in an attempt to sound cool. However, she is perfectly capable of speaking normally and her act quickly falls apart if even slightly pressed upon, causing her to often be teased by others. She is also weak about sensual matters and is easily embarrassed when they are mentioned. Yuzuru Yamai She speaks in a robot-like speech pattern, telling the point of her comment before speaking the rest. For example, when asking Shido to explain something, she would say "Confirm; Shido". Also, unlike Kaguya, her speaking patterns are a genuine verbal tic and not just an act. When arguing with Kaguya, she tends to sneer at her and points out the flaws in her arguments. Overall, Yuzuru is the calmer, quieter, and arguably the more mature one of the twins, though she still has her own moments of childishness. Yamai Kazamachi The human Yamai appeared to have been a sociable and popular, yet ordinary, teenage girl. She was shown to be incredibly selfless, saving a child from getting run over at the cost of getting fatally injured herself. However, she was also somewhat childish, thinking she would be viewed as a hero, though this was partially to mask her fear upon realizing that she was dying. Even in her final moments, Yamai continued to place others above herself by worrying about what would happen to them following her death. As a Spirit, Yamai's personality is a combination of both Yamai sisters rather than regaining her old identity from when she was human. She begins her sentences with a summarizing word like Yuzuru and follows up with eloquent speech like Kaguya. However, again like Kaguya, she can also continue with normal words. She inherited the twins' playful demeanors and competitive natures. In fact, in Yamai Triad, she was shown to arguably be too excitable, causing her to be ignorant of others' feelings and health. However, she is far from selfish, being ashamed of her bad habit upon noticing it. Advertisement History Background Yamai Kazamachi was born a vanishing twin, with her absorbing her stillborn twin while still in utero. She grew up to become an ordinary high school student heavily involved in anything she could participate in like music and athletic activities. One day, around the age of 17, she saw a child that was about to be hit by a vehicle. Wanting to be like a hero she always admired as a kid, she moved to save the kid at the expense of being struck in that child's place. As her consciousness started to fade, Mio appeared and gave her a Sephira Crystal to save her life. However, rather uniquely the Sephira Crystal reacted bizarrely with the DNA of her stillborn twin sister as well, causing the original Yamai Kazamachi to split apart into two. The subsequent twins Kaguya and Yuzuru both inherited different aspects of the original's personality and preferences. Over time, both twins forget about their human life, only remembering that they both originally came from one Spirit called Yamai. The Yamai Sisters subsequently became well-known to the people who knew about the existence of Spirits because they often cause a major storm in an area, which occurs every time they come to Earth. It was unstated when the Yamai Sisters started fighting, but they have been fighting with each other for quite some time for the sole purpose of deciding that the winner would become the real Yamai. She compares it to the Path which Shido establishes after sealing a Spirit. They can gracefully control the air currents in order to glide through the sky. At their full power, both of them can easily create a typhoon that can blow away a small island. They also have shown to be able to combine their powers to form a bow and an arrow that is able to pierce through the <Arbatel>'s Territory. Abilities Moves/Attacks: Kaguya: El Re'em (穿つ者エル・レエム, Eru Re'emu?. lit. "Piercer") Yuzuru: El Na'ash (縛める者エル・ナハシュ, Eru Nahashu?. lit. Both of their wings combine to form the body of the bow, Yuzuru's pendulum becomes the bowstring, and Kaguya's lance becomes the arrow. Inverse Form After being forced to see Ellen kill Shido on the school rooftop, both of the twins, along with Tohka and Origami, assumed their inverse forms due to the overwhelming despair in their hearts. In this form, the Yamai sisters were both surrounded by a tornado that indiscriminately rampaged around the buildings beside the school. However, the status quo was restored after Kurumi used the sixth bullet to travel back in time. Wizard Since Spirits are the foundation for the creation of the Realizer, both twins are compatible with the Realizer and can use it to generate a Territory just like the rest of the former Spirits. In order to do so, they manually operates a <Yggd Folium> leaf through a wireless headset. When fighting against Beast, both twins coordinated their movements, using their <Yggd Folium> as a distraction in order to create an opening for Origami. Fused Form Upon taking in Beast's Eighth Sword, both Kaguya and Yuzuru grabbed the spiral blade at the same time and kiss, causing their bodies to temporarily merge and fuse as one. In turn, this causes a recreation of the original Yamai Kazamachi to be reborn. However, Yamai considers herself different than the human Yamai Kazamachi due to the personal growth that both Kaguya and Yuzuru have developed after splitting apart. The fusion grants enough strength and speed (the latter reaching supersonic levels) to overpower Beast after she had already been weakened by Origami and Kotori's attacks. However, as a forced fusion, there is a time limit set before both Kaguya and Yuzuru are forcibly split apart again, which does occur shortly after their fight with Beast concludes. Nevertheless, their fusion allows Yamai access to <Raphael>'s full power, combining Kaguya and Yuzuru's individual weapons together for various defensive and offensive purposes. "Piercer"): Fusing her chain to the handle of her lance, her weapon becomes a guided projectile that can be steered through manipulating the chain portion. Even if the lance is dodged, the sheer wind pressure coating the weapon is enough to push back the target. El Peguz (護る者 エル・ペゲツ, Eru Pegetsu?. lit. "Protector"): By wrapping her chains around her folded wings, Yamai creates a sturdy knight's shield that can be used to defend against incoming blows. The shield itself was durable enough to endure a direct guided slash from <Beast>'s Sandalphon. El Yevurn (蒼穹を喰らう者エル・イエヴルン, Eru Ievurun?. lit. "Consumer of the Blue Sky"): By fusing all of the components of her Angel together with portions of her Astral Dress, Yamai summons a huge ballista that can fire a pure concentrated arrow of wind pressure. Other Abilities As Spirits, Kaguya and Yuzuru boast physical abilities far above those of an average human even whilst sealed. Like Tohka, they also seem to be able to instinctively sense an opponent's strength. As a result of their many matches, the Kaguya and Yuzuru have developed a huge amount of miscellaneous skills, being experts in various talents like makeovers, drawing, video games, and bowling. However, there are also some skills that only one of them has, with Kaguya being better at playing drum sets whilst Yuzuru is more skilled with bass guitars and word games. During the events of Yamai Triad, Yamai Kazamachi was shown to have the same miscellaneous skills as Kaguya and Yuzuru. However, she possesses an even higher level of mastery, easily besting her separate selves in everything from arcade games, to cosplay, to rhythm games, to even a bowling game where the twins were allowed to add their scores together. In the end, Yamai had to handicap herself by partnering with Shido just to give the two of them a fair chance. Advertisement Quotes Kaguya's Quotes (To Shido Itsuka) "……………It's better if I don't know right………then, I'll believe you. That's because, Shido was the one who gave me and Yuzuru the 3rd choice at that time……………." [12] Yuzuru's Quotes (To Shido Itsuka) "Convinced. Kaguya is often like that but, she really loves Shido. There is no mistake since Yuzuru says this. Yuzuru and Kaguya were originally from one body and one soul. What Yuzuru hates, Kaguya also hates. Similarly───what Yuzuru loves, Kaguya also loves." [13] Yamai's Quotes (To Shido and the Spirits): "Intrusion. For those afar, heed my cry. Gaze closely if you will. One horseman equal to God. To solve this dilemma swiftly and skillfully. ──I am Yamai Kazamachi, the typhoon king who reaps all of creation.[14] Trivia Yamai was the original Yamai Kazamachi's given name. However, after splitting apart, both Kaguya and Yuzuru adopt Yamai as their shared surname. Yamai has the "Eight" character in her name (「八」舞). It refers to eighth Sephira on the Kabbalah's Tree of Life: "Majesty or Splendor." After being given the Sephira number eight, the Yamai sisters were conceptualized to be twins due to the kanji for eight (八) being split into two symmetrical strokes, as well as the two circles used in its ordinary number form (8), invoking an image of a pair of twins. [15] Kaguya's name contains "arrow" (矢, ya) and Yuzuru's name contains "bowstring" (弦, tsuru). Kazamachi contains the kanji for "wind" (風, kaza) and "wait" (待, machi). Oddly Kaguya and Yuzuru's Angel is supposed to be Michael because Raphael governs the sixth Sephira on Kabbalah's Tree of Life, "Beauty," while Michael governs the eighth Sephira on Kabbalah's Tree of Life, "Hod", which means "Majesty" or "Splendor". However, Raphael and Michael are said to co-operate on the governing of the 6th and 8th sephirot, therefore both can be said to be affiliated with those sephirot. The fact there are two Yamai Spirits illustrates the point that it has two governing entities. The Yamai sisters' Astral Dress's name is 'Elohim Tzabaoth' which means "God of Hosts or Armies." (Derived from the two Hebrew word: "Elohim" Which means God in Hebrew and "Tzabaoth" a Hebrew word which means "Host" or "Armies"). Their Angel, Raphael, has its name mean "God has healed" or "God's healer" in Hebrew. The actual meanings of El Re'em (ראם), El Na'ash (נחש), and El Kanaph (כנף) are "ram", "serpent", and "wing" in Hebrew. The Yamai sisters appear in the Date a Live OVA as a cameo at the arcade which Tohka and Shido are at. Any word Yuzuru starts her speeches with will always have exactly two kanji in Japanese. Kaguya loves cool things and hates studying. Yuzuru loves junk food and hates noise pollution. [16] Raphael was decided on having a wind attribute early on, but the Angel's form was not always a bow, with some ideas including a centaur or a chariot. The Yamai sisters' Astral Dresses also had concepts like "bandit" or "sylph" before "bondage" was settled on.[17] Yamai Kazamachi's unborn little sister would have been named Yayoi (八宵). [18] In the early drafts, the twins’ names were Tenma and Chikage Yatagarasu (八咫硝子やたがらす 天真と地景てんま ちかげ?). [19] Yamai Kazamachi likes heavy metal and dislikes crown daisies.[11] As an anthropomorphic disaster, the Yamai sisters represent typhoons. After having most of her Reiryoku sealed by Shido, Yoshino started living in one of Ratatoskr's living quarters on Fraxinus temporarily before she moved down to the apartment complex next to Shido's home. Yoshino is currently practicing, with the help of Ratatoskr, how to speak for herself or to be more precise on how to talk without the aid of Yoshinon. Appearance Yoshino has the look of a young, cute girl at about 13 to 14 years of age with blue eyes and long, wavy blue hair. Yoshino's height is stated to be 144 cm, and her three sizes are B73/W55/H78. Her Astral Dress is an oversized green raincoat with a rabbit theme, sporting a poofy tail with a pink ribbon tied to it on the coattail, and a pair of rabbit ears on the hood. The coat is lined with a gold zigzag pattern, white frills, and the sleeves are partially detached at her upper arms. She wears green boots matching the color of her raincoat with pink socks inside. Under her raincoat is a white dress and a pink ribbon around her neck. After her sealing, she is almost always seen wearing a hat. In the summer, she wore a one-piece dress and a sunhat given to her by Reine. When she starts attending school, she wears the same white sailor outfit as Kotori, and later the female Raizen student uniform. In the concept art for her Inverse Form, her hair color becomes a translucent white. She can be seen wearing her Spirit form hoodie with a black color scheme and a small drape-like shirt that covers her cleavage. It also displays sharper ears in comparison to her normal hoodie. Yoshino also wears an eyepatch over her left eye, whilst the color of her right eye has turned red. On her left arm, the Yoshinon puppet has been replaced with the Yoshinon Junior puppet. Yoshinon Yoshinon is a mischievous, white rabbit puppet that Yoshino always holds in her left hand. Yoshinon's right eye has a black button with a brown band that resembles an eyepatch, while its left eye is a tiny red dot. The eyepatch is because Nagisa ran out of material to create the right eye. It has an orange and yellow collar around its neck. The puppet is often wearing a miniature version of Yoshino's current outfit. Personality Yoshino is described as being a shy, yet kind young child and is far more passive compared to most of the other Spirits, never even fighting back against the AST despite them constantly trying the kill her. During her first appearance, Yoshino was withdrawn to the point of being unable to articulate full sentences or express herself well, instead having her alter ego, "Yoshinon," speak for her. However, while this certainly wasn't a healthy way of living, it did at least help keep her mental state somewhat stable. On the other hand though, whenever Yoshinon was separated from her, the normally quiet Spirit would completely lose her composure and even showed willingness to resort to violence to get her puppet back. Like the other Spirits, Yoshino's mental state can also be displayed through her powers. During her debut, her powers would constantly cause it to rain, symbolizing how sad and lonely she was. Similarly, without Yoshinon being present, Yoshino would unintentionally freeze her surroundings, showing how unstable she is without her alter ego. Throughout the story, after Shido sealed her powers, Yoshino slowly begins to improve her communication skills and learn how to integrate herself into society. Not long after starting her rehabilitation, she becomes able to converse with others without relying on Yoshinon. She later also becomes more open and daring in her interactions, especially after befriending Natsumi. During the Spirit's battle royal, the threat of losing Shido caused Yoshino to finally go all out, bravely facing her fellow Spirits. All of this growth culminates in her taking off Yoshinon of her own will and confessing to Shido. Yoshinon Yoshinon, the other Yoshino Yoshinon, the other Yoshino "Yoshinon" is Yoshino's alter ego that appears in the form of a puppet speaking through ventriloquism and was created to help her bear the hardships of being hunted by the AST. The Yoshinon personality only exists within the puppet; when the two are separated, Yoshinon becomes dormant. However, both Yoshino and Yoshinon don't seem to know this, causing them to believe the puppet is alive and not understand what ventriloquism means. Since Yoshinon was created to be the shy Yoshino's ideal "hero", the puppet's demeanor has a far more outgoing and outlandish demeanor compared to the latter. In contrast to Yoshino who speaks timidly, Yoshinon speaks boldly and in third-person. Subconsciously, despite having lost her memories, Yoshino based the personality of the puppet on her mother Nagisa, who told her the puppet was a symbol of her always looking after her daughter. Yoshinon has shown to be brutally blunt, to the point of unintentionally insulting others on occasions. She is also very teasing, especially during her first appearance, to the point that she comes off as being arrogant. Yoshino will occasionally cover her mouth when she teases her about her feelings for Shido. However, misguided as she might be at times, Yoshinon has shown to truly care for Yoshino's best interests. History Background 26 years ago prior to regaining her memories, Yoshino was a sickly child raised by a single widowed mother. Due to her illness, Yoshino spent most of her life in the hospital. For Yoshino, the narrow hospital room and window was the entire world that she had known. One day, her mother Nagisa presented her a rabbit puppet called Yoshinon, who would act as a symbol of her mother always looking out for her when she was busy with work. Yoshino then planned to make a junior puppet representing herself to give to her mother. However, Nagisa would later die in a work-related accident. As she was crying over her mother no longer visiting her, Yoshino's illness grew worse to the point where she had difficulty even breathing. Mio arrived and gave her a Sephira Crystal, with the subsequent transformation into a Spirit curing Yoshino of her illness. Soon afterward, she then disappeared from the hospital and eventually forgot about her past as a human. Like most Spirits, Yoshino often appeared in the world through Spacequakes, though she also sometimes appeared silently, without causing a Spacequake. When she appeared in the world, her Spirit powers would, whether she wanted to or not, cause it to rain. Because of this and the Spacequakes which she caused, Yoshino had very little to no contact with others. Instead, she constantly had to run away from the AST, who were always trying to kill her. However, despite the AST attempting to kill her, Yoshino never fought back because she did not want to hurt others. All of this caused Yoshino to become withdrawn and very lonely. In her loneliness, Yoshino unconsciously used the puppet on her left hand and ventriloquism to create another personality named Yoshinon to keep her company. Yoshinon embodied the person she wanted to be, strong and not afraid to speak her mind. Eventually, Yoshino even stopped talking for herself and instead let Yoshinon speak for her. Before her sealing, Yoshino would inadvertently cause a heavy downpour whenever she appeared. She usually only uses her powers for defensive purposes due to her kind and shy nature. Being a passive Spirit, Yoshino is very agile when running, hiding, and evading her enemies. Defensively, her Astral Dress has enough defensive power to block an AST missile barrage. However, she is a potent fighter when properly motivated, winning the Spirit battle royal after defeating four other Spirits (although Kurumi surrendered after losing enough Reiryoku to sustain Rasiel, and Origami was ambushed after being exhausted from her prior fight). Learning of Yoshino's victory surprised Kotori because of her passive nature, but Kotori had no doubt that Yoshino had the strength to win. "Frozen Armor") Her Angel, Zadkiel, is a huge puppet about three meters in length that resembles Yoshinon.[6] In the anime, Zadkiel has two forms. The first form resembles Yoshinon but is a lot bigger, with one red round eye and an eyepatch, large sharp teeth, and white skin. In this form, Zadkiel has the ability to absorb water from the ground and air and release it in the form of freezing air that acts similar to liquid nitrogen. Yoshinon is also able to talk through the puppet and acts as a limiter to suppress the Angel's powers so that it doesn't end up killing anyone. Zadkiel's second form appears to be its true form, this form also resembles Yoshinon but is even larger than when Yoshinon becomes Zadkiel. The second form is larger than a building and does not have an eyepatch. This Zadkiel has the same powers as the other, but its strength receives a significant boost. Zadkiel is manipulated via strings from two holes in its back. Yoshino usually keeps her hands inserted in these holes, but she can use the strings to remotely control the puppet for sneak attacks. Zadkiel shrinks in size after Yoshino's sealing.[7] At her full power, Yoshino is capable of creating a large blizzard dome that extends to 10 meters. The dome automatically reacts to Reiryoku or the Maryoku fueling AST's CR-Units. Origami notes that she is capable of freezing things without substance, like the Territories generated by Wizards. Kotori even compares the intensity of her ice storms to being constantly targeted by a barrage of shotguns. Yoshino's Astral Dress is also deceptively durable despite its appearance. It is capable of enduring gunfire from AST that would otherwise be fatal. Shido also notices that her Astral Dress doesn't seem to get wet as normal clothing does during the rain, something which he theorizes is due to a special property of an Astral Dress. When using Shiryon, Yoshino fuses with Zadkiel, gaining ice armor over her Astral Dress. Her powers over water and ice increase to the point where the surrounding area becomes frozen. Shido remarked that she looked like she was wearing Zadkiel. Usually, her hands in this form are equipped with mittens, but for combat purposes, she can switch to large gauntlets that contain icicle claws. [8] Wizard Since Spirits served as the foundation for the creation of the Realizer, Yoshino is compatible with the Realizer and can use it to generate a Territory just like the other former Spirit girls. In order to do so, Yoshino uses a wireless headset to manually operate a <Yggd Folium> leaf. Quotes (To Shido Itsuka) "Yoshinon is… …my ideal… …yearnings of… …myself. [12] Trivia Yoshino's voice actress, Iori Nomizu, sang the 2nd and 3rd ending themes: Save The World & Save My Heart, as well as being a member of sweet ARMS who sang the opening theme, Date A Live. Yoshino made a small cameo in Episode 3 outside the arcade Shido and Tohka entered. Yoshino has the "Four" character in her name (「四」糸乃). This refers to the fourth Sephira on Kabbalah's Tree of Life: "Kindness”. Her given name also contains the kanji for "string" (糸, shi?) and the possessive particle (乃, no?). Her surname contains the kanji for "ice" (氷, hi?), "bud" (芽, me?), and "river" (川, kawa?). Her angel Zadkiel's name means "Righteousness of God." The name of Yoshino's Astral Dress is 'El' which means 'God', but also implies "The divine one" or "The mighty one'. The dress's armor mode, Shiryon, translates to "armor" in Hebrew. Yoshino's design is based on a "jungle girl" which means a "fairy-like female that lives in the forest".[13] In Date A Live Tsunako Art Book SPIRIT, an extra illustration was made detailing Yoshino's appearance in her Inverse Form. Her favorite things are cute hats, and her least favorite are crowded spaces. [14] Yoshino's Astral Dress was initially cat-themed rather than rabbit-themed.[15] As an anthropomorphic disaster, Yoshino represents cold weather damage to crops.[16] While the official date can shift by one day due to the Earth's rotation on its axis, Yoshino's birthday March 20th is usually Vernal Equinox Day (春分の日, Shunbun no Hi?), a public holiday in Japan celebrating the northward equinox. Appearance As a doll, Yue's appearance became a cartoonish caricature of her former self. Personality Unlike Hibiki, Yue felt the need to fight in order to keep living, which caused her to often encourage Hibiki to also make the best use of her powers. However, Yue was also cheerful and even quickly befriended Hibiki while she was an Empty, something that not many Quasi-Spirits would consider even approaching. As a doll, her personality has been altered to be subservient to Doll Master. However, a part of her still remembers Hibiki, moving to protect Empty after mistaking her for her old friend. According to Hibiki, Yue was the sort of person to fully immerse herself in the wonders of the Neighboring World, wanting to enjoy herself even if everything there was just a dream. In actuality, Yui is the younger sister of Yuri Sagakure, in place of the original whom Yuri killed to prevent her from leaving their home. After the incident, Yuri built robotic replicas of her sister, separated into two types: the robot-like mass production models that are to serve in Netzach, and the "Best Model" type which is nearly identical to a real person. The Best Models are sent to serve as spies for other Dominions who enjoyed Yui's espionage ability, but these patrons are also aware and assume that Yui could betray them at any time in favor of her creator. Appearance Yui wears a remodeled indigo blue colored sailor uniform, with a short skirt to the point of being overexposed. The uniform also exposes her midriff. Where the uniform doesn't cover, fishnets can be seen on Yui's arms and collar. With a fierce expression and a sharp glint in her eyes wary of negligence, she resembles a kunoichi. Around her thighs, she has sheaths for her kunai and wears red vambraces over her forearms. She also wears decorative armor pieces in her ponytail. Personality In Date A Bullet volume 1, Yui is dedicated to her duty to the "Princess" she served. Yui is not afraid to die because "there will be next time." Like White Queen's Empty followers, Yui does not fear death. Rather, she is more afraid to die a "meaningless death." Original The original Yui Sagakure was a Quasi-Spirit who sought for her purpose in life through battle. Because of this desire, she opposed her over-protective sister, Yuri, and tried to escape from their home. This was the catalyst that caused Yuri to kill her. Best Model Yui Sagakure Yui is well aware of her existence as a doll created by her sister and wants to be loyal to her. Unlike the mass production model, the Yui made with effort by Yuri has full capacity to experience emotion. This emotion creates confusion over her sister's contradictory nature. That is, making Yui whom she loves, while simultaneously not caring if they are destroyed. The doubt made her envious of the mass production models who are completely loyal, and made her question why she was given emotions. She thought of herself as a defective product. In addition to seeing herself as defective, Yui recognizes the dichotomy and manipulation of Yuri’s treatment of her and the Mass Produced types. She realizes that in actuality, Yuri must care very little for her despite the lip service she assures them with. Upon seeing her sister’s dead body, Yui was deeply troubled by the fact she didn’t feel sadness and only shock. Confused as to whether this reaction or lack thereof was because she was a robot or because she was a bad sister for not feeling sad, Yui takes the burden on herself and sees herself as shallow due to her lack of reaction. Furthermore, she realizes that her motivation to ‘avenge’ Yui stemmed not from her own motives, but from a programmed response. Despite serving her sister and obeying her whims, Yui isn't the most forthcoming with her duties, and even notes that she would rather let Kurumi and Hibiki succeed in their goal rather than her sister. Yui is evidently troubled and damaged after enduring Yuri's abusive treatment. Mass Production Yui Sagakure The mass production Yui Sagakure act like robots who are run by an automated program or direct control from their creator. Despite that, they still have limited capacity of emotions, such as experiencing fear when threatened. However, even these primitive emotions are turned off when they are in battle mode.
